Pipestone County AHMP

June 3, 2010

SRDC has been working with counties, cities and townships in Southwest Minnesota for over five years on All Hazard Mitigation Planning.

In 2005, FEMA and Minnesota Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HSEM) approved All-Hazard Mitigation Plans (AHMP) for Murray, Nobles, and Redwood counties.  We are now working with them to update their plans.

In 2008, FEMA approved AHMPs for Rock and Jackson counties.  Last week, FEMA approved pending adoption the draft Pipestone County AHMP.

The Pipestone County All-Hazard Mitigation Planning Team identified the following natural and man-made hazards as High Rank Hazards for Pipestone County:

  • Blizzards and Winter Storms
  • Public Health Emergencies
  • Tornado and Straight-line Wind
  • Transportation Infrastructure

A public hearing was held before the Pipestone County Planning Commission in February, after which HSEM & FEMA requested extension of the text to fill in details of the planning process.  The Pipestone County Board of Commissioners will consider adoption of the AHMP on Tuesday 22 June 2010.
